Safety, reliability & quality at the Port of Dover

adminconfined space, High Voltage Cable

Safety, reliability & quality are extremely important when we carry out installation, inspections and maintenance work at the Port of Dover. These happen to be 3 of our key company values.

Confined Spaces

Confined spaces, by their very nature, can present many hazards.

A large percentage of our work includes running High Voltage cables through service tunnels, both new and / or to replace existing cables that are either damaged or no longer fit for purpose.

Identifying potential hazards

Being aware of potential hazards and mitigating potential – sometimes fatal – incidents is a critical part of working in challenging environments.

Our fully trained and experienced engineers – running high voltage (HV) cables – spotted raw sewage being pumped into a service tunnel. They immediately closed the tunnel, installing the appropriate hazard signage and alerted management – the awareness and proactive behaviour is welcomed by the Port of Dover management.

Spotting high voltage cables that are damaged is another example where our engineers’ experience and safety first approach proved valuable. HV cables can swell – known as birdcaging – and become dangerous. These cables supply power and data to port control, therefore, its vital damaged cables are identified and replaced so the port is not compromised with a serious power outage or a major incident.

Safety, reliability & quality

“At the Port of Dover, its critical electrical services are provided to the highest standard possible by a reliable and safety conscious contractor.”

“M-Tech – whose values focus on safety, reliability & quality – continue to deliver exceptionally high standards of electrical services in challenging environments for the Port of Dover.” Michael Edson,
